Whether your child is starting Kindergarten for the first time or going into their senior year, transitioning from summer vacation back to school can be tough on both your child and your family. Some stress at the start of the new school year is inevitable, but there are some ways you can plan ahead to ease the transition for your family this school year. In this blog, we’ll discuss a few things you can start doing now to make the new school year as easy as possible!

Start to Reintroduce The School Year Routine

For many students and parents, going from a laid-back schedule in the summer to a more rigorous routine in the fall can be overwhelming and stressful. One of the best ways to reduce this stress in the fall is to start reintroducing this routine towards the end of summer. Obviously, you can’t fully replicate your child’s school schedule in the summer, but you can start incorporating components from their school routine that you often have a hard time adjusting to. This can include anything from getting them to bed on time and waking up early, laying out their clothes the night before, or packing their lunch the night before. Finding ways to reintroduce components of their routine that affect both you and your child can help mitigate back-to-school stress.

Plan How to Provide Academic Support

If your child is a little older, you’ll have learned their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to academics. If your child typically needs help with math, plan ahead to get a private tutor or have them attend a tutoring center during the school year. If your child is younger or doesn’t need particular help, just designated time to focus on homework, you can plan ahead to have homework sessions.

Our Big PALs program offers homework help for all of our students, whether they just need distraction-free time to work or need active help with their work!

Consider Using Before and After Care Programs For Support

Before and after school programs have emerged as invaluable resources for setting students up for success and providing support to working families. Before and after care programs can help relieve some of the burden that arises with going back to school. They allow your child’s school day to more closely reflect your work day, putting less pressure on you to find frequent, reliable childcare. These programs also go beyond just childcare, offering a wealth of benefits that contribute to a child’s overall development and well-being.

Where Can I Find Before And After Care Programs?

If your child is in the Egg Harbor Township school district, then you’re in luck! The Police Activities League of Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic County offers before and after care throughout the school year! Our Big PALs before and after care program accepts students from kindergarten through eighth grade. If you’re interested in enrolling your child for the 2025-2026 school year, you can do so on our website or give us a call to find out more information about the program!
