The holiday season is often a time for reflection and giving to our friends, families, and community! As you look back on the year and start to think about what 2025 has in store and what you want your New Year resolutions to be, consider incorporating supporting charities and your community! Charities and non-profits often receive an influx of support during the holiday season, and while it is very appreciated, these organizations need support year-round so they can continue providing resources to their communities! In this blog, we’ll discuss some ways you can incorporate charity and community support into your goals for the new year!
Donate or Volunteer For Your Local Organizations
When we think of giving back to the community the most obvious solution is to give what we can whether that’s money, time, or both! Financial support is critical for non-profit and charity organizations in your community. Smaller non-profits and charities in your community do not receive the level of attention and funding that large-scale organizations do. This is why they rely so heavily on local donors and sponsors to help be able to provide support to their communities. While financial support is always appreciated, it’s not always a feasible option for everyone looking to help their community. This is where volunteering plays a large role! If you’re looking to give back throughout the year, check with some of your favorite local organizations and see if they are in need of volunteers! From front-facing work to behind-the-scenes administrative tasks, many non-profits and charities are eagerly looking for help throughout the year!
Prioritize Non-Profits in Your Day-to-Day Life
If you’re a busy parent who is looking to focus more on charity and giving back in the new year but has limited free time, doesn’t have the disposable income to make financial contributions, and is feeling defeated by how to get involved, there are still choices you can make that can help your community! Non-profit organizations can use your help beyond donations and volunteer hours. Utilizing a non-profit’s resources and being a participant in their organization is a great way to offer support to their cause. When you utilize a non-profit’s support, you help the organization understand the needs of their community, you help send a message to donors that the organization is worthy of continued support, and your word of mouth helps spread the message of the organization throughout the community!
For example, the Police Activities League of Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. While our sponsors, donors, and volunteers are critical parts of keeping our organization running, our supporters who attend our events, participate in our activities, and utilize our childcare services are also critical to our mission. Without you, we wouldn’t have a community to support! Participants in our organization help us serve our community, achieve our mission, and show just how beneficial our programs are!
Small Acts of Kindness
If you’re looking to incorporate charity and community into your life throughout the year, a great way to do that is through small acts of kindness. Whether it’s shoveling an elderly neighbor's driveway, helping a mom with her hands full load groceries into her car, or taking a few extra minutes to have a conversation with someone, these small acts of kindness are the foundation for creating a stronger community. These may not be the grand gestures often associated with “giving back” but they are integral parts of fostering community! Through these small actions, you can integrate yourself further into your community and be a pillar of support in whatever ways are possible for you!
