Did you know that March was declared NJ STEM Month? It’s a month dedicated to highlighting the Garden State’s presence and accomplishments in science, technology, engineering, math, and innovation. At EHT PAL, providing opportunities for members of our community to learn about and engage with STEM in new ways is so important to us! In honor of NJ STEM Month, we’ll explore some of the upcoming STEM opportunities we have at PAL this spring!
STEM Expo Event
Date: Saturday, March 22, 2025
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Place: Police Activities League, 2542 Ridge Avenue, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234
Our STEM Expo is a FREE event open to the community! The STEM Expo is an exciting event for people of all ages. At our annual event, you can come explore interactive hands-on STEM activities! NJ STEM Month highlights the incredible accomplishments in science, technology, engineering, math, and innovation.
PAL will introduce the community to a vast array of STEM programs and allow kids and parents to explore unique, hands-on STEM activities firsthand. The PAL STEM Expo will showcase science, technology, engineering, math and so much more. Meet PAL teams: KidWind, R.O.A.D.S. Challenge, SeaPerch Team, and 4 times NJ State Champion First Tech Challenge Robotics Team. Interested in learning what these teams have been working on? Our teams will have their builds on display!
Design and Build a Space Habitat For The STEM Expo
Enter your design for a chance to win a prize. Work as a team with friends or your family to design and build a model of a space habitat using the engineering design process.

Design Constraints
The space habitat must contain the following five modules:
1. Power and propulsion module with solar panels and thrusters
2. Habitation module with an exterior docking port
3. Laboratory module with an exterior docking port
4. Storage module with two exterior docking ports
5. Airlock module with an external hatch
Draw your team’s design for a space habitat model on the paper. Make sure to label each of the five modules: power and propulsion, habitat, laboratory, storage, and airlock.
The following are some suggested materials:
Aluminum foil, Balloons, Bamboo skewers, Bubble wrap, Buttons or beads, Cardboard scraps, Cardboard tubes, Foil plates, Paper bags, Paper clips, Pipe cleaners, Plastic bottles, Plastic cups, Popsicle sticks, Straws, String
Spring STEM Workshops
Lego Spike
1st-3rd grades | Tuesday 4:30pm-5:30pm | 04/08/25 - 05/27/25
LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential, part of the LEGO® Learning System, is the cross-curricular STEAM solution for elementary education. SPIKE Essential engages students in hands-on investigation of STEAM concepts while contributing to literacy, math, and social-emotional development. Standards-aligned learning units use everyday themes, relatable Minifigures with different personalities, and familiar LEGO® building elements to solve problems through storytelling. Join us this spring!
WeDo 2.0
2nd-5th grade | Tuesday 5:45pm-6:45pm | 04/08/25 - 05/27/25
WeDo 2.0 makes science, technology, engineering, mathematics and coding come to life. The unique combination of the Lego Brick, classroom-friendly software and engaging, standards-based projects results in a resource that builds students' confidence to ask questions, define problems and design their own solutions by putting STEM learning directly in their hands. We have very limited funding for at-risk youth. Please ask about available scholarships if you are in need of financial assistance. Join us this spring!
Mindstorm EV3
5th-9th grade | Tuesday 7:00pm-8:30pm | 04/08/25 - 05/27/25
With LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 you can turn LEGO creations into live robots that follow your every command. Students will work with motors, sensors, and a programmable brick, to create and command robots of their wildest imagination. They will program robots to drive, talk, and move via the intuitive software program, the programmable brick and PAL computer. This hands-on program allows students to work independently and at their own pace. With the guidance of PAL Robotics counselors, children will learn and develop their skills. We have very limited funding for at-risk youth. Please ask about available scholarships if you are in financial need. Join us this spring!
Smart Car & Smart Robot
5th-9th grade | Tuesday 7:00pm-8:30pm | 04/08/25 - 05/27/25
During smart car, kids get educational, hands-on experience about Arduino programming, electronic assembling and robotics knowledge. Under the guidance of PAL staff, participants will receive everything they need to build a vehicle, including 24 kinds of module parts including obstacle avoidance, line tracing module, infrared remote control and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR via Android phone and tablets. It is an integration solution for robotics learning and made for Arduino education. During smart robot, kids will program and control their robot on a smart phone or tablet with the app. Pick from one of the kits. Each robot kit has all the parts to build 2+ robots or you can invent your own! Robots run on treads, use sensors, are remote controlled or can be programmed. Everyone keeps their creations at the end of the program! Join us this spring!
